REMEDIATION OF MINING WASTE FACILITIES

Environmental remediation project for mining waste and sites affected by mining in the TT. MM. of Cartagena - La Unión

This project aims to prevent the runoff and contribution of heavy metals contained in mining waste into the Mar Menor, while also ensuring the structural stability of mining waste facilities, protecting people's health, and improving environmental quality.

The project, which complements the restoration of the mining ravines, covers 281.8 hectares and includes 59 facilities. Due to the project's scope, these facilities have been grouped into nine action sets. The projects for all nine sets were processed jointly under the standard Environmental Impact Assessment procedure, which concluded on December 6, 2023, with the publication of the Environmental Impact Statement.
