FLOOD CONTROL IN THE TOWN CENTER OF LOS ALCÁZARES

Floodable park and restoration of the riverbed of Avenida Muñoz Zambudio and the Pescadería ravine

Two projects are planned in the municipality of Los Alcázares, with the aim of preventing flooding in the town center and recovering and environmentally improving the Pescadería ravine.

The two projects, differentiated into "Phase 1" - Channeling of runoff through Muñoz Zambudio Avenue to the mouth and "Phase 2" - Floodable park for runoff capture, involve an action on 35.8 ha that will become a public space that will retain and filter 484,000 m3 of runoff.

Milestones achieved

  • The two projects have been processed jointly, as they are complementary. The Environmental Impact Assessment was completed in August 2024 with the issuance of the Environmental Impact Report.
  • Both projects were technically approved in December 2025.

Phase 1 - Runoff channeling

Channeling of runoff along Muñoz Zambudio Avenue and the Pescadería ravine to its mouth. This project includes the reclamation of the ravine as an urban waterway and linear park along a 1,250 m stretch.

Latest developments

The project was approved by the Council of Ministers on 14/04/2026.

Phase 2 - Floodable Park

A floodable park will be built to capture runoff downstream from the AP-7 motorway, acting as a flood control zone and partially retaining the overflow from the D7 canal and any nearby runoff. From there, the water will be channeled to the newly restored and renaturalized riverbed.

Latest developments

The project was approved by the Council of Ministers on 12/05/2026.
