GREEN FILTERS

Set of green filter and semi-natural wetlands projects in the Mar Menor area

Green filters (FFVV) are created with the main objective of reducing the nitrate content of the water that reaches the Mar Menor through the discharge of groundwater and, with this, contributing to the improvement of the quality of the water that reaches the lagoon and the ecological improvement of its habitats.

The basic projects were jointly submitted to EIAo.

→ Latest developments

• The "El Mirador" green filter has been discarded due to uncertainty regarding the fate of the circuit's water, administrative complexities related to its location, and its lesser contribution to the project's objectives. Environmental permitting for the Rambla de Miranda and Torre del Negro rail projects has also been suspended while alternatives to the adopted technical solution are being studied.
• The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Los Alcázares and Rambla del Albujón projects is pending, with the provisional version of both construction projects completed, with a budget of around €16 million on an area of 46 hectares.
